Case 10 HISTORY: 30 year old man. Carcinoma of rectum. No distant spread. Pre-operative chemoradiation followed by anterior resection. Gross findings: The anterior resection specimen includes a 150 mm length of proximal bowel with peritoneum, 40 mm length without peritoneum. Situated at a distance of 75 mm from the distal resection margin, the peritoneum has a 20 mm puckered area with no obvious nodularity. There is no further abnormality situated below the peritoneal reflection. On slicing through the puckered region from above downwards, no macroscopic tumour is recognised. There is some fibrous thickening of the wall noted in the region of puckering. Digital images.
