The Academy of Pathology came into existence in 2011, when a group of 37 senior pathologists from South India came together as founder members with the intent of commencing and promoting innovative teaching in pathology for both undergraduates and postgraduates. Representatives from almost all medical colleges in south India as well as private laboratories with advanced technologies are part of this group.
The aims and objectives of this academy are to focus on modern teaching trends in medical education with a paradigm shift from conventional classroom teaching methods to non-conventional teaching methodology in order to promote interactive learning in medical students through active participation and integrative reasoning. From a small group which was started in October 2011, the strength of this academy is presently 200. The first CME program was held on 30th October 2011, subsequent to which one international conference and ten CME programs have followed with an excellent feedback from the participants with regard to the quality of teaching programs: demonstrations, slide seminars and group discussions.
